Dream Catcher.
Dream catchers are believed to filter out your nightmares. For 2021 I am going to need a bigger dream catcher. I am reminded of the scene from Jaws, when the crusty captain sees the huge shark, and calmly says "we're going to need a bigger boat". That was 2020.
Strong Medicine
Fern Mandala. We need strong medicine today. I first posted this image on Jan 6.
Strong Medicine-Blue Version
These were made from brown, wet ferns in winter. The overlapping textures look like basket weaving. A protection symbol. The masked face in the center has wings of fire.
Forest Gateway
A Gateway in the Forest. I often imagine these arching branches as gateways to a mystical realm. There is more here than meets the eye.
Golden Fern Mandala
I discuss these abstract nature images in my recent blog article, and have arranged my favorites in a gallery.
Harmony
I mirrored this fern 4 fold. The center square may be the inner temple.
Fern Tree Mandala
A fern tree, or large maple tree covered with ferns, mirrored 4 fold. I love the intricate patterns and textures of the multitude of ferns.
Old Man of the Wood
Queene Anne's lace, mirrored 4 fold. See his eyes and beard? The Old Man symbolizes ancient wisdom from thousands of seasons.
Pine Cone Mandala
Cones of a fir tree, mirrored 2 fold. I love the colors and textures. I read that Braille was invented by a young man who felt a pine cone with his fingers, and had a brilliant idea.
Orange Ferns Mandala
Ferns turn orange in autumn, mirrored 4 fold reveal textures which still resemble ferns, if you look closely.
Oregon Grape Mandala
Waxy leaves of Oregon Grape, mirrored 4 fold in Photoshop, to reveal an intricate mandala.
A Fun Guy (Fungi)
New Years blessings to all. A simple, happy face. Created from a turkey tail fungus.
Red Bug
Imagination is an Art.
Dahlias Sun God
The Aztec sun god makes an appearance for winter solstice.
Dahlia mandala 2
Dahlia mirrored 4 fold in Photoshop. Color variations.
Harlequin
Delight: This face looks like a harlequin or clown. A Joker.
Roots Mandala
This image started with exposed tree roots along the rivers bank. Mirrored 4 fold, these look like a man with arms stretched upward.
Golden Roots Mandala
A more abstract treatment of the previous image.
Sword Fern Mandala
Sword Ferns mirrored 2 fold.
Sword Ferns Mandala 2
Sword Ferns mirrored 4 fold.
Golden Keys Mandala
Golden grass mirrored to create a mandala. Keys are to unlock hidden knowledge or gnosis.
Blue Keys
Same image of dried grasses, hidden keys.
Hope of Spring
Dried grasses, mirrored 4 fold. Deep red color symbolizes blood of life.
Blue Grasses Winter Mandala
Grasses mandala, blue variation. This would look great printed on canvas or metal.
Winged Light Mandala
This group are derived from Dancing Light images in my Ripples Gallery. Light patterns from the riverbed on a sunny day.
Crystal Blue Mandala
A different treatment in Photoshop of the previous image. Imagine sunlight shining thru cold, clear water from snow melt.
Hidden in the Mountain
A more abstract, 4 fold mirrored version.
Cold, Clear Water
Sunlight patterns mirrored 4 fold. I am experimenting here with selecting the center geometry for yellow color.
Brilliant Sunlight
The shallow water can create more intricate patterns than the deeper water.
Red Maple Mandala
4 fold mirrored branches of a red maple in early spring. Different images seem to like different colors, this one took magenta easily.
Hexagram Mandala
A stump of a recently downed tree. This revealed a hex pattern when mirrored. It wanted to be reddish/orange. In Amish country, farmers paint hexagram symbols on their barns for protection.
Spring Azalea Mandala
