Evening Adventure
Paddle boarder at sunset, Port Townsend, Washington.
6am Club
Early morning rowing club, Port Townsend, Washington. A quiet morning on the bay.
Dreams of Greenland
A fishing boat in the Faroe Islands, a map from a 1770 atlas. Since Viking times sailors have braved the North Atlantic. Even modern steel and diesel ships seem fragile against the sea.
Dreams of the Salish Sea
Every sailor must have a map in his head, to know where he is going and how to get there. Evening reflections at the marina in Port Townsend. Nautical chart of the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island.
Wood Duck
Port Townsend, Wash. Reflections at sunset.
Liberty
No one is free until all are free. Schooner Suva at sunset. I added a wood grain vignette to give the feel of the Age of Sail.
Whidbey Sunrise
Coupeville, Washington. Mt Baker and reflections, and golden light. I used my long lens at 200mm to capture the detail on the mountains and the sailboats. I think this image works best with the boats slightly offset with the dark reflections of Mt Baker.
Schooner Suva at Sunrise
Coupeville, Whidbey Island, Washington. A monochrome edit, with wood grain vignette. Recalls the Age of Sail.
Crab traps
neatly stacked crab pots, from Anacortes, Wash.
Rubber Bumpers
A working tugboat. I was impressed by the rubber tires, in case we smash into something.
Salish Sea Sunrise
Anacortes, Washington. I took this photo from the overlook above Cap Sante marina. I used a 70-200 lens (at 200m) to capture the details of the small islands and the fishing boat. Taken just before sunrise.
Orcas Landing
Ferry landing at Orcas Island, Washington State. I was lucky to get the classic wooden boat in the photo. The Washington State Ferry runs several times a day from Anacortes to Orcas Island, and takes about 1 1/2 hours.
Tug boat and Mt Ranier
Sunset from Port Townsend, with Mt Ranier in the distance. I believe the boat is a Grand Banks cruiser.
A Fresh Breeze
Aug 2022 I spent a week in Scoresby Sound, East Greenland, aboard a boat. The views and scenery were breath taking.
The Hildur
s/v Hildur is owned and operated by North Sailing of Husavik, Iceland. The Icelandic crew were experienced and talented, and were good company for the week in Greenland.
Schooner with Unfurled Sails
The schooner s/v Hildur, based in Husavik, Iceland. Recalls the romantic Age of Sail.
Misty Mountains
s/v Hildur was our companion ship for a week in Scoresby Sund, East Greenland.
Orcas Island Sunset
West Sound, on Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands, Washington State, PNW in its glory.
